Alexandra Wilding is lecturer in Classical Studies at the Open University and her research interests lie in the spheres of ancient Greek culture, history, and epigraphy. She is particularly interested in how inscribed objects within religious settings were encoded with social and political meaning and how they may be interpreted as a complex dialogue between the parties responsible for their creation. Her new monograph explores these themes in relation to the interstate sanctuary of Amphiaraos in northeast Attica. This book underlines the role played by groups and individuals in manipulating the material landscape of Amphiaraos’ sanctuary and his mythological tradition to promote a view of their aspirations during times of fluctuating political circumstance.
